54th Congress of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine ( MEDTROP 2018 ), which will take place at the Pernambuco Convention Center, in Olinda, Pernambuco, from September 2 to 05, 2018.

The Brazilian Congress, together with its satellite events on Chagas and Leishmaniasis, malaria, tuberculosis, tropical disease vectors, traveler health, gathers a great diversity of professionals who work in the area, such as doctors, biologists, pharmaceuticals, veterinarians, geographers, historians, legislators, nurses, mathematical, mathematical, math, matematic, mathematicians, mathematicians politicians, who constitute the scientific community of researchers related to this large area.

In 2018 Congress returns to Recife, which hosted it in 2009, in the one that is considered the largest edition of all held, bringing together more than 3,000 participants. One of the main cities of the country, in the center of the Northeast region, the holding almost ten years after this historic edition in our region certainly provides a great expectation, but also a great challenge, returning to Frevo, Maracatu and Forró, as well as the other special attractions of the North Leo, with the natural beauty of its beaches, islands, rivers and multicultural traditions.

Another aspect to note will focus on the discussion of arboviruses and other endemic diseases transmitted by vectors, in the broadest and most important discussion of control programs, health surveillance and new alternatives for the diagnosis and treatment of grievances that constitute major challenges in public health, from the perspective of the strengthening of the SUS. In this sense, the central theme of Congress will be “perspectives for controlling transmissible diseases and strengthening health surveillance in facing new epidemics”. The scientific program will contemplate the most relevant and current topics in science in various approaches of basic studies, clinical trials and cohort studies, advances in diagnosis, treatment and control of infectious and parasitic diseases, with special emphasis on neglected populations diseases, among other hot spots.

The Pernambuco people are as always very hospitable and very much proud to host the SBMT Congress, hoping to be able to bring together a large number of participants to review such and relevant public health issues.
